We have 3 Printmaker positions available. One position is for our South LA location; one for our Downtown LA location and one for our San Pedro location. Please indicate which location you are interested in applying for.

We nurture gifted artists with developmental disabilities. Our success is due to the chemistry between the Artists and Art Instructors who use their personal artmaking process to guide our artists through their projects.

We are looking for individuals who:
1. Are technically skilled, but not obsessed with it.
2. Can think outside the box with projects
3. Is intuitive and creative
4. Has an extensive portfolio and strong work ethic
5. Loves contemporary art and has a strong knowledge of contemporary artists.
6. Has patience
7. Loves working with people and is comfortable with adults with Developmental Disabilities
8. Can take initiative with projects

The following skills are required:
1. Expertise in all printmaking techniques (Lithography, etching, linocuts, metal plates, woodcuts, screen-printing…etc)
2. Can operate and maintain a professional litho combination etching press
3. Can operate a foot squaring metal shear
4. Can install gallery shows
5. Can organize and maintain the workspace

HOLLYWOOD ENTERTAINMENT MUSEUM, EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

Overview and Requirements
The Hollywood Entertainment Museum (HEM) is currently seeking an afterschool instructor to teach students how to design their own web pages using MAC computers in a state-of-the-art classroom. This position is open immediately. The program is located at the Hollywood Media Arts Academy, a Community Day School operated by the Los Angeles County Office of Education, which encompasses media arts education in acting, screenwriting, music production, video production and dance. Instructors teach students two days a week during the hours of 1:30 – 3:30 pm onsite in the media district of Hollywood, near Highland Avenue and Santa Monica Blvd. The program provides technical training to at-risk high school students who are dropouts, credit deficient or on probation. It is a small learning community with an average student class size of 15-20.

Instructors are required to create an 8-week unit (with an objective for each day written into their course’s syllabus), leading to a project-based outcome for students at the conclusion of the eight weeks. Eight week units are able to be repeated to new students throughout the year, or teachers can elect to create an advanced class that furthers content and training in a particular media arts subject. Beyond direct instruction, teachers are required to create pre-, post- and midterm tests, take attendance and attend all HEM meetings/trainings.

A resume that outlines your teaching background and experience

Note: If called for an interview, be prepared to bring: Three samples from your portfolio as a teaching artist or professional. These can be scanned images, digital photographs or electronic documents.

2. Cover letter and resume will be reviewed. Qualified applicants will be contacted for interviews with the Director of Education. A qualified applicant may be contacted prior to the submission deadline for interviewing and hiring.

3. Chosen applicants will be selected based on availability, need, interview and qualifications. Selected applicants will be offered immediate employment, or be placed on a hirable list for upcoming work.

TUESDAY EVENING saw the meeting of arts teachers and parents at the New High School for the Arts about the outright elimination of LAUSD’s elementary Arts Education Program in the next two years of budget cuts. If the District’s nationally recognized elementary arts education (dance, instrumental & choral music, performing and visual arts) program is eliminated those elementary teachers will displace (‘bump‘)secondary arts teachers with less seniority – even though elementary arts teachers travel from school-to-school and secondary teachers work at single school sites. It must be remembered that the proposal to eliminate Elementary Arts Ed was represented last year as purely a ‘worst case scenario’ place-holder for years 2 and 3 of the three-year budget submitted to the county. Now, a year later, the scenario is worse-than-worst, and the unacceptable has become inevitable. LAUSD’s Ten Year Plan for and commitment to Arts Education implemented in 1999 lasted exactly ten years and expires; R.I.P.

Because we teach to (and budget to) the test, and the arts are not tested, the arts are forfeit. The myth of Standards Based Instruction is exposed; we are purely test-based.

Spotlight Awards: Visual Arts Deadline Extended to Dec 8th! The Music Center Spotlight Awards is a nationally-acclaimed scholarship and arts training program for Southern California high school students in the performing and visual arts. Open to all students who attend high school in Los Angeles, Orange, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego Counties. Visual Arts Application Deadline has been extended to December 8th, 2009. (The extended deadline for Performing Arts has passed.) The Visual Arts Application Process: The two-dimensional design and photography program offer young artists and photographers the opportunity to have their work viewed by a panel of prominent museum curators, artists and designers as well as professional photographers and collectors. The Towne Street Theatre in Los Angeles is offering internships for its upcoming world premiere of Langston & Nicolas, two men ... one voice.
This story of the friendship of Langston Hughes and Cuban poet Nicolas Guillen is a Co-Commission of The Towne Street Theatre and The Robey Theatre Company. It is written by Bernardo Solano and directed by TST Artistic Director,Nancy Cheryll Davis.

The production goes into rehearsal February 15,2010 and runs Friday, Sat at 8 and Sundays at 3 - April 2-May 2. Rehearsals and production will take place at the Stella Adler Theater in Hollywood (at the corner of Hollywood and Highland).
