CULTURAL AFFAIRS SUPERVISOR - City of Santa Monica, CA
ANNUAL COMPENSATION: up to $83,068 which indicates a base salary of $79,992 per year + cashable leave days (paid at end of the fiscal year) equaling up to $3,076 per year.

Job Summary: Plans, develops, coordinates and promotes cultural arts programs and activities. Administers one or more cultural program areas that include City grant programs to non-profit organizations, planning and coordination of special cultural events, management of cultural event facilities and public art coordination; Supervises, assigns and reviews the work of staff and/or consultants responsible for the implementation of assigned cultural arts programs.

Requires: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Arts Management, Theatrical Production or a closely related field. Three years of recent, paid work experience delivering cultural programs. Experience must have included grant application and management and the preparation and maintenance of financial records. At least two years of the recent, paid experience must have included supervisory responsibilities or one year of leading and coordinating the work of others and successful completion of the City of Santa Monica's Pre-Supervisory Academy at the time of application.

PAID SUMMER INTERNSHIPS & ENRICHMENT WORKSHOPS

We will place you in an internship at an arts organization, such as a
museum, a theater or a dance company, based on your skills and
interests. You will participate in enrichment workshops on job
readiness, personal skills and advocacy training, and you will attend
cultural activities, field trips. Most importantly, you will work with
creative professionals and program staff eager to provide mentorship, at
a downtown non-profit visual and performing arts organization/

theatre.
This program will run for a 4-week period from August 3 – 28, 2009.
You will work and attend workshops for 20 hours a week and earn a
stipend at the end of the summer of $400!

ELIGIBILITY:

· You must be between the ages of 16 –19 AND either still
in high school or just graduated AND have not yet started college.

· You must live in the City of Los Angeles.

· You must have an interest in the arts.

· You must submit a completed application, including a
recommendation letter, paren tal consent, and proof of income by JULY 3,
2009.

· You must be available to commit to working 20 hours/wk for 4
weeks.

· No concurrent employment in any other city funded program.

· Preference for low-income youth.

Part Time Grant Writer

Sundays Live, which produces 50 free chamber music concerts annually at
the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, is looking for a part-time grant
writer to begin work in July or August. This position has been
subsidized by a foundation for two years and Sundays Live is looking to
renew this support; first grant proposal may be this renewal
application. Job also entails research for new sources of income,
reports, etc. Salary negotiable, but past grants have been for $10,000
annually. Candidate must have appreciation of music and experience

Job Offering

The HeArt Project brings arts education to Los Angeles teenagers,
providing them with ongoing workshops led by professional artists and
opportunities to present their work in major cultural institutions.
Working with 25 alternative high schools, the program currently serves
over 500 students annually. The HeArt Project is seeking a workshop
coordinator who will work in HP classrooms along with the teaching
artists. Workshop coordinators are a unique and critical part of The
HeArt Project's philosophy. They help ensure that each classroom
boasts an effective learning atmosphere. They are assigned to specific
classrooms and build relationships with teachers and students. They are
essential to helping our students participate in HP's progressively
challenging ladder of opportunities. Key responsibilities of the
workshop coordinator include:

• Attend weekly workshops at 5 assigned schools
• Support teaching artist by managing classroom during workshops
• Act as liaison with artist, teacher, students
• Manage purchase and distribution of art supplies
• Administer HP evaluation tools
• Maintain a roster of student attendance
• Keep a weekly journal of class observations
• Prep student speakers for workshop public presentations
• Manage student art – including transport and labeling --
for workshop public presentations
• Document art-making by students

Qualified candidates will possess previous classroom experience, ideally
with teenagers; familiarity, knowledge, experience in the arts (visual,
performing, media, and/or music); proficiency with digital creative
software tools, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, PowerPoint, Final Cut
Pro; good organization and communication skills, and the ability to
speak at least conversational Spanish. Successful candidate will work as
part of a strong organizational team; communicate effectively both
verbally and in writing; add to the diverse backgrounds and experiences
currently represented in the staff; and enjoy working for the benefit of
young people. Must have a car with insurance.
